Social Media & Communication Intern or Volunteer 

for Emergency Architecture & Human rights 



Emergency Architecture & Human Rights (EAHR) is a small organization in fast development, that since 2004 has been working with a combined architectural and social science perspective to solve humanitarian problems. Through an interdisciplinary approach, our international team is creating social activities as well as building for and with vulnerable communities around the globe, advocating for their human rights. We have been operating for three years from our hub in Copenhagen; the base of our advisory board and domestic employees, collaborators and volunteers. 

Both in Denmark and internationally, we develop workshops and social activities; hold academic conferences and lectures; train local communities in construction with sustainable and local materials; while principally designing and building architectural solutions that can create resilient societies, enabling people`s access to their human rights. We explore and work according to the UN’s declaration of human rights, the UN 17 sustainable goals, whilst also being aligned with the Core Humanitarian Standards. 


We are looking for a Social Media & Communication intern/volunteer who believes in our vision and who knows how to manage a broad range of web communication and branding tasks in projects from the beginning to the end. You will have to continue and further develop this strategy with relevant colleagues at EAHR. 

We expect that you: 

  • Have genuine interest in the humanitarian field. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Danish and English. Knowledge of Arabic or other languages is a plus.  
  • Are used to communicate complexed topics in a clear and simple way to different target groups 
  • Are willing to be part of the development of the organization’s potential. 
  • (Optional but desired) have experience in an NGO with fundraising and/or communication. 


We will formulate your final role description together, so it both matches our needs and your wishes for professional development and work experience. We expect that your duties will mainly include: 

  • Communication in our website, quarterly newsletters and support the Communication Manager with daily to weekly posts on social media accounts. 
  • Report and monitor social media accounts for audience reactions to the Comm. Manager. 
  • Shape brand style and aesthetics, implementation of our communication strategy, develop and lead smaller campaigns.  
  • Maintain EAHR’s website, keeping content updated and optimizing it for search engines. 
  • Support communication of the membership page in EAHR’s website. 
  • Research partner feeds for inspiration about interesting posts. 


  • Are in the last years of your education or have finished a degree in communication, digital communication, journalism, social science, marketing or other relevant.  
  • Experience of administering multiple social media platforms 
  • Experience working with content management system (CMS) as WordPress or similar. 
  • Are positive, results-oriented, outgoing and have an open approach to other people 
  • Can work structured, independently and in teams.  
  • Passionate for communication and experience in writing digital content 
  • Be able to summarize information and with attention to detail. 
  • Good eye for design and branding, it’s an advantage. 
  • Knowledge of photo or/and video editing software it’s an advantage. 


  • Practical and concrete work experience with communication work in an NGO 
  • A lot of responsibilities and possibility of professional development. 
  • Close cooperation with the communication coordinator and the rest of the team with different disciplinary backgrounds. 
  • To work in a professional, creative workspace, open to receive your inputs and ideas 
  • The opportunity of networking with other smaller NGOs at VerdensKulturCentret (VKC). 
  • Get involved in a wide range of cultural activities which takes place at VKC, ALICE, Turning Tables, Salaam, Human Library, etc. 



Title: communication Intern/volunteer 

Duration: From 2 to 6 months 

Location: Copenhagen 

Deadline: November 30th 

 The internship position is unpaid and can be either full-time or part-time, starting on January 2019 or as soon as possible. Maximum duration of internship is 6 months. Interviews will be held ongoing. As a student intern we will together plan the days and hours you can be here, so you are able to attend your classes and prepare for your exams.
